Mid-Week Updates

My life has been full of good intentions. Getting some energy and starting OR finishing. It sometimes feels like my days of going a full nine innings are long behind me. But here we are starting a good habit. I am putting it into my phone. I am making sure my calendars are updated. Let's see if we are here next week.

Thoughts On Life

Work has been busy lately. I work in a field that is one part retail, one part CBT (Computer Based Testing - dirty lot), and a whole lot of personnel management. Aspects of my day job I excel at (but not Excel) and some I am still working on. Same with relationships. Partner, father, friend, sibling, son, and co-conspirator. Its a struggle some days to not just say fuck it, but that is not what I want. Overall? Life is good. Its me that could be better. I will be traveling for work over the next few weeks.

Thoughts on Writing

I need to finish my various WIP so I can move onto a new batch of WIP. I feel good about where my writing is right now. I think any amount of writing helps you to sharpen your point and to keep you sharp. But growth is not found in blog posts or work emails, growth happens when do the thing you want to do. In my case that is short stories and novellas and novels. I am still trying to figure out why I struggle with finishing. Executive dysfunction? Maybe.

I have been lately contemplating the difference I see in well written books and stories versus what is commercially viable. The two do not have to be at odds, but it sometimes seems like they are. Then again there is something attractive about writing a story that is just what it is, instead of a deep dive into the commentary of the day.. Everything I write says something about the world I live in, but its not all 12th Level Intellect stuff. Pew Pew.

In October, I will be starting the 8 in 8 Short Stories push again. Maybe its a viable alternative to NanoWrimo. The less said about that disaster, the better.
